As Tomoya slowly drifts away from his alcoholic, abusive father - his life drifts and he slowly turns more into a delinquent, that is until his life is flipped around by the arrival of Nagisa. As the two start to become closer, Tomoya finds himself turning into a better person and soon realises he has feelings for the soft spoken, shy Nagisa. Tomoya and a handful of his friends decide to help Nagisa with her dream, that being to get the drama club up and running - and although it seems a little hard at first, they finally are able to put on a performance for the school.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ＡｎｉｍａｔｉｏｎI have a big love for series by Kyoto Animation and all in all I love their style. Clannad was probably the first animes I had seen in this specific art style and I instantly grew attached to the soft coloured themes and how cute the characters all looked.

Clannad uses a lot of good visuals and scenery, and I believe that's what drew me in the most. I love the cherry blossoms, the snow, the sunflower fields - they are always so vibrant or soft when the mood is right. Right at the beginning of the anime, Tomoya and Nagisa are walking to their school on a pathway surround by sakura trees, and as they have their first interaction, the leaves slowly drift down and all around them - as in most romance animes really. Often when the characters are having a somewhat serious conversation it always seems to cut away to a image of scenery or something that could represent what they're talking about, not only does this make the audience take in things easier, or let the information seek deeper, but it also interests the viewers more as to why they cut away from such an in-depth moment.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━Ｃｈａｒａｃｔｅｒｓ𝑻𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒚𝒂 𝑶𝒌𝒂𝒛𝒂𝒌𝒊. Tomoya is the leading male protagonist in this series and the show is based around his love for Nagisa. One thing Tomoya loved most was basketball, and he was even offered to take his career further than the school - but in a fight with his father he seriously injured his shoulder and can no longer lift it high enough to shoot baskets.

Ever since that day, Tomoya has hated his father and has grown distant from him. Although Tomoya puts up this act as a delinquent, he is of the usually quiet and doesn't actually go around looking for fights or to cause trouble purposefully. The story starts when Tomoya meets Nagisa, and slowly his life stops and starts revolving around her.𝑵𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒔𝒂 𝑭𝒖𝒓𝒖𝒌𝒂𝒘𝒂.

Although it was her desicion to retake her final year of highschool, Nagisa finds it hard to make friends of her own - which is why she is so greatful of Okazaki coming into her life. She's shy, but always kinds to other people. Nagisa often thinks lowly of herself, and says that she is a burden to her parents because she messed their lives up by being constantly Ill, but her parents think otherwise, and care for her dearly. As a confidence booster, Nagisa often mutters the names of food to herself that she plans to eat after she does what she wants to do - like a treat you get after finishing a task. Although she is shy towards the beginning of the series, we slowly watch her evolve into a bubbly and cheerful person, who often talks about the great dango family𝑲𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝑭𝒖𝒋𝒊𝒃𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒔𝒉𝒊.

The best way to describe Kyou is she's sorta like that annoying friend who won't leave you alone no matter where you're going, and would often use things against you for blackmail. She has a twin sister Ryou, who is the complete opposite to Kyou's bold, aggressive nature. Even though she and Tomoya are put into different classes during their third year of highschool, they still manage to stay close friends. Her feelings towards Tomoya makes things weird at stages as Kyou is usually the jealous or envious type, but instead of being jealous of Nagisa, she is more jealous of Tomoyo as the have a somewhat rivalry between them.𝑻𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒚𝒐 𝑺𝒂𝒌𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒊. Tomoyo is a recent transfer student who already is adored by everybody for her confidence and strength.

Not only is she strong, but she is also hardworking and intelligent, planning to be on the student council. When Tomoyo is first introduced, it is rumored she has violent tendencies and is often thrown into fights - later being confirmed when she easily beats up 3 delinquents from her previous school on school property. Because of this, Youhei, Tomoya's friend, believes that she is too strong to be a girl and often tried challenging her or trying to trick her into saying she's a guy. Tomoyo is desperate to get into the Student council as it is her only hope to save the cherry blossom trees that hold a important significance to her and others alike - she does save them in the end.𝑭𝒖𝒌𝒐 𝑰𝒃𝒖𝒌𝒊. Fuko is the most childish and hyperactive character in this show, what makes it sad when you find out that she is actually in a coma and what everyone can see is merely a 'ghost'. One of her biggest obsessions is starfish, and she carves hundreds of them to give to students at her school as a type of wedding invite for her older sister. After Tomoya realises that Fuko is hurting herself in the process of making her stars, he confiscates her knife and holds it until she feels better and her hands have healed. As Fuko's condition slowly worsens, she is forgotten by everyone, and Tomoya speeds up the process of the wedding. After the wedding, sadly, Tomoya and Nagisa start forgetting about their friend and Fuko only shows during tough situations to try cheer them up.𝑲𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒎𝒊 𝑰𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒔𝒆.

Kotomi is highly intelligent and always scores top ten in all her classes, because of this she often spends her time in the schools library reading or eating food. She seems to have troubles socializing with other people due to her constant isolation. When the first two meet, it is shown that Kotomi and Tomoya don't know each other, but as the series progresses we learn that they were good childhood friends until her parents died in a plane crash, and not wanting to lose someone close to her again - she asks Tomoya to leave. While Ichinose locks herself in her room after witnessing a car crash, Tomoya and the drama club renovate her garden to be how it was when they were younger, and even gift her with a violin as even though she is terrible at it she enjoys playing. After opening a suitcase containing a note from her parents, Kotomi realises she is being cared for even after death and starts to become more mature.𝑨𝒌𝒊𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒓𝒖𝒌𝒂𝒘𝒂. Akio and Sanae Furukawa are Nagisa's loving parents who are owners of a bakery - although Sanae's cooking isn't exactly the best. Sanae is Nagisa's mother, and the two share a very similar resemblance some people even believing that Sanae is Nagisa's older sister as of how young she appears to be.

It's true that Sanae isn't the best cook, but clients often tell her that her food is amazing and if otherwise she runs out crying. She is soft spoken and often very calm in any situation, and used to work as a kindergarten teacher before her daughters sickness.Akio, as you may have guessed, is Nagisa's father - and is often very protective of his family. When Akio couldn't persue his dream of being an actor, Nagisa took It into her hands to try and keep the drama club alive for her father, as he sacrificed so much for her sake. He often picks on Tomoya since he is dating his daughter but it's all in the name of love.

As much as Akio dislikes Tomoya, he is still the one who cares and looks after his daughter, which he comes to accept.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━Ａｎｏｔｈｅｒ ｗｏｒｌｄ：Ｔｏｍｏｙｏ ＣｈａｐｔｅｒI feel like this may be a bad thing to say, but i loved this ova more than the entire series. In this ova, the story takes place and shows what it would be like if Tomoya never met Nagisa, and instead was dating Tomoyo. I found It very interesting to watch and the episodes takes the audience through one hell of a emotional rollercoaster.

The episode starts off with the two being close and how they love each other, but as things begin to change we see both Tomoya and Tomoyo drift away from each other, eventually breaking up and going their own ways. Tomoya falls into a somewhat state of depression as he watches Tomoyo reach her goals from afar - but no matter how busy Tomoyo was, or how she wanted to become successful, she missed Tomoya dearly and by the end of the episode they get back in each others arms. I feel like with a lot of romance animes the audience to forced to feel as if the main interests are in love with each other since that's the way the storyline is intended to be - but with Tomoya and Tomoyo's relationship it felt to me as if they truly loved each other and it was just bad timing for both of their lives to be changing at the exact same time.

Of course my favourite part of this episode is the ending. In the final scene of this one time episode, we watch as Tomoyo and Tomoya stand there, talking about their futures. Tomoya mentions how he is stuck, and he'll never leave this place, but Tomoyo is smart and she'll easily be accepted into any school of her choice. Tomoyo says that is not what she wants, and she'd rather stay by his side than anywhere else. We watch as Tomoyo breaks down after Tomoya finally accepts her love and it all ends with the two embracing each other.━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━Ｏｐｅｎｉｎｇ. Clannad Dango Daikazoku Ending songDango, Dango, Dango, Dango, Dango, Big Dango familyI absolutely adore the ending to this series.

Nagisa's favourite thing is dango, and she often hums the dango theme song to herself. The song is about, well, dango and there massive family from baby dango all the way to grandpa dango. The song sings about how that are such a happy family together and is all together just a cute and wholesome song to be sung at the end of the show━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━Ｆｉｎａｌ ＴｈｏｕｇｈｔｓI don't exactly watch romance animes a lot, but I enjoyed this series very much, (the second season more but I'm not bothered) my suggestion, if you do not wish to watch the two complete series - there is a movie that covers everything in 1 hour, although some information is missed or ran over too quickly.▭▬▭▬▭▬▭▬▭▬▭▬▭▬▭▬▭▬▭Cover by Gallery.
